2026 Winter Olympics: Dialogues Between the City and the Alpine Macro-Region

The event will highlight the complex macro-regional system, from the metropolitan area of Milan to the Alpine areas of Lombardy, Veneto, and Trentino-Alto Adige, focusing on the legacy of the event. Drawing on insights from two recently published books by Politecnico di Milano’s Department of Architecture and Urban Studies, the discussion will cover planning, sustainability, and the future of the region.

Keynote Speaker:
Sven Daniel Wolfe (ETH Zurich) will present on the challenges and opportunities of “sustainable” mega-event planning.

Round Table:
Moderated by Francesca Vigotti (Politecnico di Milano), the panel will feature local administrators, experts, and scholars, including:

PROSPETTIVE URBANE: Progetto editoriale Milano Urban Center

On Wednesday, July 17 2024 at 18:00 CET, Davide Ponzini and Stefano Di Vita will present the recent book Milan Cultural Mega-Events at a dedicated event hosted by the Milano Urban Center. The event is held in collaboration with the Order of Architects PPC of the Province of Milan. Four other recent books addressing various urban perspectives of the city of Milan will also be presented and discussed. The event is open to the public and will be held at Palazzo Morando, Via Sant’Andrea 6, Milan.

Exploring the Urban Dimension of AI Seminar Series 2024

The “Exploring the urban dimension of AI” Seed Seminar Series will focus on the uses of AI and related tools in the city, going beyond the discussion of mere technical matters and unfolding the political, social, and cultural issues that are implied. The series brings together international experts to critically discuss case studies, the complexities and controversies of the uses of AI from the perspective of cities, their public administrators, and planning actors.

Davide Ponzini, Zachary Jones and Abdallah Jreij present the book Milan Cultural Mega-events in conjunction with Luigi Casanova presenting his book Ombre sulla neve. The event, open to the public, addressed the five main themes of the book and generated a public discussion about the legacy of the 2015 Expo and the goals of the upcoming 2026 Winter Olympic Games.
